Violent Crimes Down, Property Crimes Slightly Up in 2012 for 111th Precinct

Crime is just slightly up in the 111th Precinct during the first month of 2012, mostly due to increases in the number of grand larceny incidents and stolen cars, according to police statistics.
There have been no murders, rapes or robberies in the precinct, which covers Douglaston, Little Neck and Bayside, so far in the new year.
And the number of burglaries is down from 13 incidents at this time last year to 12 incidents in 2012.

A spokesman for the 111th said that property crimes had been the focus of the precinct's investigations this year so far.
The number of grand larceny auto incidents has risen, from three in January 2011 to nine so far in 2012.

And the number of grand larcenies is up from 19 incidents during last year’s first month to 24 this January.
Felony assaults are also up slightly from four incidents in last year’s first month to five this year.
Overall crime is up two percent, according to the 111th Precinct’s statistics.
The precinct reported a with drops in the number of incidents in five of the seven major crime categories. Two murders occurred within the precinct last year.
