Welcome Mr. Wasabi

A new sushi restaurant opens on Northern Boulevard

Calling all foodies — there's a new sushi bar in town.

Mr. Wasabi's opened on March 7, at 254-04 Northern Blvd.,  in a space formerly occupied by Tomi Sushi.

Currently offering traditional Japanese items like udon, teriyaki, bento and specialty rolls, in a few weeks Mr. Wasabi will also have a selection of Japanese beers, wines and both hot and cold sake for patrons to pair with their meals.

The second installment of the popular Japanese restaurant on 42-32 Bell Blvd. in Bayside that carries the same name, Mr. Wasabi's is a joint venture by brothers Yung and Yong Yi, who have a combined 30 years of experience as sushi chefs.

"We pride ourselves on offering authentic high quality Japanese cuisine with specialty items — like our dumplings, beers, crabs and clams — being imported from Japan. Our focus is on freshness and our passion is sushi," said Yung Yi, owner-operator of Mr. Wasabi's.

"Our most popular are Crab Lover [shredded crab meat, shrimp, masago, scallion, crunch and special sauce], the Crispy Crunch [spicy tuna, avocado, with spicy salmon and crunch on top] and the Red Bull Roll [shrimp tempura, cucumber with spicy tuna and crunch on top],” Yi said.
