Car Crashes Into Bed-Stuy Cafe, Hurts 4: FDNY

A car crashed through the front windows of the Civil Service Cafe in Bed-Stuy Thursday morning, said FDNY officials.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A car crashed into the Civil Service Cafe Thursday morning and left four people injured, one seriously, officials said.

Emergency responders rushed to the cafe at 279 Nostrand Ave. at about 8:40 a.m. where they found a silver sedan with Florida license plates had smashed through the storefront windows, said the FDNY.

One person was rushed to Methodist Hospital in serious condition, another was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and two others were treated for minor injuries, according to the FDNY.

The Civil Service Cafe serves the neighborhood as both a coffee shop and a community gathering space where Bed-Stuy residents can see art exhibits or even host a live marriage proposal.

The cafe was open at the time of the incident, according to the Civil Service Facebook page.
