70-Year-Old Woman Shot While Riding The Bus In Bed-Stuy: Cops

A 70-year-old woman was hit with a stray bullet while she was on an MTA bus riding down Fulton Street, police said.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A 70-year-old woman was hit with a stray bullet while riding a bus in Bed-Stuy on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The woman was on the back of a B25 bus driving down Fulton Street near Tompkins Avenue just before 3 p.m. when several gunshots were heard, NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said at a press conference.

After driving another block, bus riders alerted the driver that someone in the back of the bus had been shot, Harrison said.

The 70-year-old, who cops believe was not an intended target, was grazed by a bullet on her left cheek. She is in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.

Cops are still searching for the gunman, who they said opened fire on the Tompkins Avenue corner. The suspect was wearing a red or orange jacket with a gray bottom, jeans and white sneakers, Harrison said.

"Any information the community could help us out with would be extremely instrumental," he added.

Police said the woman might not be the only person hurt from the daylight shooting. They are investigating whether someone who walked into a local hospital was connected to the incident.

Detectives are were searching Tuesday afternoon for surveillance video of the shooting and interviewing witnesses, according to the commander of the Brooklyn North Detective Borough.
