Po'Mi: Where Po'Boys Meet Banh Mi In Bed-Stuy

A new sandwich shop serving up both po' and mi opened in Bed-Stuy on Saturday.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN -- A new shop serving up baguette-stuffed sandwiches from Louisiana and Vietnam opened in Bed-Stuy this weekend.

Po'Mi opened its doors at 561 Gates Ave. on Saturday with a live brass band to celebrate the launch of Bed-Stuy's newest po'boy (and banh mi) sandwich shop.

Diners who venture inside Po'Mi will find a large menu of po'boys, banh mi, salads, bowls sides and desserts. The stuffings range from classics — think creole seasoned fried shrimp po'boys and crispy tofu banh mi — to mix-ups such as a crispy tofu po'boy and a buttermilk fried chicken banh mi.

The difference, it seems, are the additional cilantro and sambol aoili that come with the banh mi.

Pork makes frequent appearances: there's a mesquite smoked pork butt bo'boy, a caramel grilled pork banh mi, a bacon-laden po'chopped salad and soda-braised short ribs.

For the carb-fearers, there are Po' and Mi styled bowls with ingredients such as burnt carrots, hijiki, black-eyed peas and sugarcane vinaigrette.

Dessert lovers can try salted caramel pudding and oatmeal cream pies.

Po'Mi is open six days a week (closed Tuesdays) from noon to 11 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Restaurant owners did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.
