Famed Jamaican Eatery Footprints Opening Bed-Stuy Outpost

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — One of Brooklyn's most popular Caribbean restaurants will open an outpost in Bed-Stuy.

Footprints Café — a Brooklyn-based restaurant chain known for its rasta pasta — will open a new location on the corner of Nostrand and Atlantic avenues, according to the company website.

Husband-and-wife team Bobby Gordon and Lorraine Maldonado opened the Footprints Café at 5814 Clarendon Road in Canarsie in 2001 after immigrating to Brooklyn from Jamaica.

Gordon and Maldonado launched a second restaurant at 1521 Surf Ave. in Coney Island in 2006 and a Footprints Café Express at 1377 Flatbush Ave. in Flatbush in 2013.

Chef Basil Jones' menu features classic Jamaican and Caribbean fare such as curry goat with roti, jerk chicken, codfish cakes, fried breadfish and the restaurant's signature Rasta Pasta, penne served with parmesan cheese, heavy cream and a blend of Caribbean spices.

While both the Canarsie and Coney Island locations have full bar service, it does not appear as though the owners have applied for a liquor license for the new location at 588 Nostrand Ave.

Patch was not immediately able to reach the owners for more information about when the Bed-Stuy Footprints is expected to open, but locals on the Bed-Stuy Friends Facebook group spotted a new sign on the storefront Thursday.
