Bed-Stuy Area Coronavirus Cases Top 6K, Data Shows

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — The number of reported coronavirus cases in and around Bed-Stuy is bigger than several states months into a nationwide outbreak, data shows.

And those states don't exactly lack for size — among them are Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Combined, those vast Western states have 3,427 reported coronavirus cases, according to the CDC.

There are 6,321 confirmed coronavirus cases in the six zip codes covering Bed-Stuy and parts of its surrounding neighbors, city data as of May 14 shows.

The zip codes and breakdowns of cases are:

• 11205 zip code - 661 cases
• 11206 zip code - 1,413 cases
• 11213 zip code - 1,265 cases
• 11216 zip code - 666 cases
• 11221 zip code - 1,158 cases
• 11233 zip code - 1,158 cases

The last time Patch reported on combined coronavirus case tallies in and around Bed-Stuy was April 2. There were 1,552 cases then.

No one zip code covers the entirety of Bed-Stuy. Likewise, it shares zip codes with other neighborhoods.

Bed-Stuy shares the zip code with the most cases — 11213 — with Crown Heights, for instance. The zip codes 11206 and 11221 are half-Bed-Stuy and Williamsburg and Bushwick zips, respectively, and only a sliver of 11205 rests in Bed-Stuy proper.

More than 6,000 confirmed cases is a lot by any measure, but it should also be noted that a large swath of zip codes to the south of Bed-Stuy show more than 1,449 cases each.
