Bed-Stuy Man Shot Dead During AirBnb Party In Brooklyn: Cops

The man was shot through a window during an unauthorized party at an Airbnb rental in East New York, according to police and reports.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A 24-year-old from Bed-Stuy was shot dead on Sunday while partying at an Airbnb rental in Brooklyn, according to officials.

Shamel Harris, who lived on Lewis Avenue, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso in an apartment on Montauk Avenue in East New York just after midnight, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Harris, who police told the New York Post is a known gang member, had been at a party at the apartment when the shots came through the window, according to the outlet.

The party had been thrown without the consent of the owner of the apartment, who had rented out the property through Airbnb.

"Airbnb bans parties, and we are outraged by the irresponsible behavior that reportedly prompted this criminal violence," a spokesperson for the company said. "We have removed this booking guest from our community while we investigate this incident and stand ready to support NYPD in their investigation."

The apartment's owner had specifically prohibited parties in the listing. Airbnb has had a "party house ban" since 2019.

Harris' death was one of two killings in Brooklyn on Sunday.

Cops also found a 17-year-old shot dead at an apartment at the Linden Houses around 7:45 that evening, according to police.
