BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A James Beard award-winning Trinidadian spot on Fulton Street has officially been named "essential."

In a list of 38 essential New York City restaurants, EaterNY has named A&A Bake Doubles and Roti as one of those mainstays.

The food publication cites the alluring "spicy-and-sweet" scent of freshly made fried doubles as responsible for frequent lines "snaking towards the door at this Bed-Stuy institution. While doubles, a stuffed "fluffy fried flatbread brimming with curried chickpeas," are typically a breakfast food, the site assures readers that it is "perfect any time of the day, really."

Opening in 2002, owners Noel and Geeta Brown have found much acclaim for their Trini institution. In 2019, they landed a James Beard award, one of the highest accolades in the food world.

In 2018, the shop moved to its current location on Fulton Street and Vernon Place, where the owners expanded their offerings past doubles to include additional traditional Trini foods, according to EaterNY.
