Blaze Erupts At Brooklyn Bar 'Dynaco,' Forcing Temporary Shutdown

BED-STUY, NY — A fire forced the temporary closure of a popular Brooklyn neighborhood bar earlier this month, and officials say it’s still unclear when it will reopen.

Flames erupted at Dynaco along Bedford Avenue near Lexington Avenue and Quincy Street during the early morning of Jan. 10, FDNY officials said. The fire was confined to an upper residential level and did not spread to the bar area, though smoke and water from firefighting efforts impacted the entire building.

In the aftermath of the fire, Dynaco has temporarily closed its Bed-Stuy location while crews address damage caused by the blaze, according to a social media post from the bar.

Officials said everyone was able to get out safely, but the fire caused extensive damage. The building remains under a vacate order as crews continue to assess how much of the bar can be salvaged.

Dynaco has operated for 13 years as a deliberately low-profile neighborhood bar, with no phone number or website, run by brothers Ben and Adam Forgash.

In a statement, the owners thanked their supporters and said they are seeking help to recover.

"We are so grateful to our beloved community to have helped us survive COVID, and we really hope this is not the end."

The Forgash brothers have launched a GoFundMe, which had raised more than $56,000 within its first week as of Wednesday.

"We’ve found ourselves alarmingly underinsured and would love community support so we can rebuild," the brothers added.
