BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Alone together, Brooklynites will break into song from their rooftops in defiance of the new coronavirus.

A Facebook event — Brownstone Brooklyn COVID-19 Singalone (Singalong) — asks cooped up people to climb to their roofs Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and stretch their vocal chords.

"Reflecting on how folks in other cities around the world are singing from their rooftops and balconies, I was thinking we should have our own in our neighborhoods," wrote its organizer.

Doctors and public officials have encouraged people to practice social distancing to avoid spreading COVID-19. As of Thursday morning, 2,382 New York City residents have tested positive for the virus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

The crowdsourced song list so far includes "New York, New York," "Que Sera, Sera," "Imagine" and other classics.
