Pine Island is a non-profit summer camp, in continuous operation since 1902 that fosters boys’ independence, imagination, and character. While many camps operate as profit-driven small businesses, Pine Island stands apart as a 501(c)(3) organization. For over a century, it has provided boys aged nine to fifteen the most meaningful experiences of their lives. On a small island in Maine’s Belgrade Lakes, campers live unplugged—without electricity or running water. They gain the freedom to make meaningful choices, the support of a community grounded in shared values, and enough time away from home to feel both independent and integral to a unique community they help build. Whether your son is shy or outgoing, big or small, Pine Island will challenge him to bring out his best in the simple joys and varied circumstances of outdoor living. All of this happens under the close guidance of our caring staff, nearly all of whom are former campers themselves. Spots are limited—Pine Island limits enrollment to fewer than 100 campers each summer. Through collaboration and networking, our vision is to partner with other community and corporate stakeholders to identify, develop and implement strategies to improve education, use emerging technologies and provide resources that help close the digital divide, build social and economic bridges for the success of at-risk, disadvantage, underserved and under resourced children, youth, seniors, families and military veterans in our communities, and help relieve the afflicted and oppressed. In the most recent FY2023 Brooklyn Community District 3 Community Needs and Budget Request, several important issues were identified in our area that we can help mitigate with community support and generous donations to repair and prepare our facility, which are: Youth Workforce Development &amp; Training Programs Summer Youth Employment Program Resources and Opportunities, Out-Of-School Programs, Nutrition Awareness and Education on physical activity for seniors and youth, Mental Health &amp; Bereavement Support, Youth Crime Prevention Programs and Resources Other program considerations are: Older Adults Day Activities, Programs, Resources and Assistance, After-School Enrichment Programs (BLAIR, S.T.E.M., S.T.E.A.M.) to help our children and youth, Digital Skills &amp; Technology Development and Training, Literacy Programs that include: Financial, Reading, English and Mathematics, Veterans and Military Family Information Services, Entrepreneurial and Social Entrepreneur Programs and Information Services, Hosting Seminars, Trainings &amp; Workshops to help burgeoning minds and create opportunities for better outcomes. It is with community engagement and support, along with your faithful prayers and generous monthly financial support, we will be able to repair and prepare our facility to minister the Word and Love of God in a practical method to reach and win souls.
