Call for Hattie Carthan Community Market Volunteers June 15-17th!

Hello from the Hattie Carthan Community Market!

The Hattie Carthan Community Farmers Markets are volunteer based community revitalization projects in Central Brooklyn led by Yonnette Fleming, V.P. of the Hattie Carthan Community Garden and founder of the markets.  The markets are food justice projects of the Hattie Carthan community garden , which is one of the largest community gardens operating for over three decades in Central Brooklyn.

The Saturday market, located at the corner of Marcy Ave and Clifton Pl. runs Saturdays 9am - 3pm from July - November increasing fresh food access to low-income community residents in a neighborhood classified as a "Fresh Food Desert."

The Sunday market operates Sundays 1pm to 6pm from the Hattie Carthan herban farm located at 49 Van Buren Place between Tompkins and Throop.

The Hattie Carthan revitalization venture has distributed over 40,000 pounds of fresh food at both markets since 2009 ,hosts 5 large-scale festival events with workshops, entertainment,cooking demonstrations and educational workshops.

 This season we are hosting our annual volunteer drive at the Hattie Carthan Community Garden - on the corner of Marcy and Clifton Place on the following days:
-Friday June 15th 6pm to 7pm
-Saturday June 16th from 11am to 2pm and,
-Sunday June 17th 11am to 2pm at the Hattie Carthan Herban Farm 49 Van Buren Pl between Tompkins and Throop.


We are inviting volunteers to show up to register your talents and availability to help in the markets during the 2012 market season.


Market volunteer orientation and mockup market consisting of volunteers and youth interns will take place on July 7th 2012 10am to 2 pm at the Hattie Carthan community market corner of Marcy and Clifton Place)
