Mother, 2 Young Daughters Killed In Brooklyn Fire: NYPD
A woman and her 8- and 10-year-old daughters were killed in an apartment fire in Bed-Stuy, authorities said.

BED-STUY, NY — A mother and her two young daughters were killed Friday in an apartment fire, police said.
FDNY found the woman, 40, and her two daughters, 8 and 10, about 5:05 a.m. after extinguishing a fire at 587 Gates Ave., according to NYPD.
The woman and girls were taken from the third floor apartment to an area hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.

The fire did not jump into any neighboring apartments and took under an hour to put out, according to the NY Daily News.
The cause of the fire was not yet known Friday morning. FDNY was investigating.

"I am devastated to learn that morning a fire in Gates Ave in our district claimed the lives of three of our neighbors," Council Member Chi Ossé said in a Tweet. "I extend my deepest condolences to their family members. My office continues to the monitor the situation and is on hand to provide assistance."
