NYPD Apprehends Rape Suspect in Bed-Stuy After All-Night Manhunt

Asa Robert, 18, has been on the loose since Monday.

Dozens of New York police officers trailed Brooklyn rape suspect Asa Robert, 18, as he fled through Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy through the night. They finally apprehended him around 4:30 a.m.

The manhunt seemed to stagnate for hours on Madison Street in Bed-Stuy.

Robert’s alleged crime, via the NYPD:

On Monday, July 13, 2015 at approximately 1:40 a.m., the unknown male suspect gained entry inside the 82-year-old female victim’s private residence while she was outside sweeping the street. The victim went back inside her residence and went inside her bedroom. The suspect, who was hiding inside the bedroom, then assaulted the victim and demanded money at knifepoint. The victim did not have any money to provide to the suspect, and he remained inside the apartment for several hours. At approximately 4 a.m., the suspect forcibly raped the victim. The suspect then fled the location, stealing an umbrella and a bag containing clothing. The victim was later removed to Kings County Hospital for evaluation.

Now, police say: “Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the above listed suspect has been apprehended within the confines of the 81 Precinct. Charges are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.”
