Officer Nabs Inmate With Knife at Brooklyn Court
Correction Officer's quick action may have saved lives.

Correction Officer Julyan Cranford, (left) a Bedford-Stuyvesant resident, was recognized recently by Department of Correction Chief Martin Murphy for Cranford’s apprehension of an armed inmate at the Brooklyn Supreme Court. When the new-admission inmate failed to clear a metal detector, Officer Cranford conducted a pat-frisk, during which he discovered a 3 ½ inch folding blade and a canister of pepper spray. Keeping dangerous contraband out of the jails and court facilities is key to the Department’s 14-point anti-violence reform agenda.
