2 Women Arrested for Trying to Smuggle Drugs into Prison: Police

They were accused of possessing a drug used to treat opiate dependency.

ELLENVILLE, NY — State Police arrested two women who are accused of smuggling drugs into a correctional facility.

On Tuesday, Jennifer Rodriguez, 24, of Manhattan, and Natalie Ozuna, 18, of New Haven, CT, were charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies.

Police said investigators with the New York State Correction and Community Supervision contacted the State Police at Ellenville regarding two separate individuals who, police said, tried to smuggle drugs into the Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch.

Rodriguez and Ozuna, according to the police, were intercepted as they entered the prison and were found to have a quantity of Suboxone, or buprenorphine, which is used to treat opiate dependency.

The women were arraigned in the Town of Wawarsing Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.

Rodriguez and Ozuna were ordered to return to court August 5.
