$40K Donation Means New UTV Rescue For Volunteer Fire Department

The Bedford Fire Department has a new tool to ensure that help can reach those in trouble, no matter where it is needed.

BEDFORD, NY — The Bedford Fire Department has a shiny new way to reach even the most remote emergencies thanks to the determination, generosity and efforts of a local resident.

The Bedford Fire Department announced it received a $40,000 donation to be used for the purchase of a Polaris UTV rescue vehicle.

The new rescue vehicle will be equipped with a rescue bed for injured hikers or horse riders who might be injured while riding in isolated and difficult-to-reach locations. The UTV can be equipped with a specialized firefighting bed so it can also be used to help contain brush fires in areas difficult to reach with traditional fire-fighting equipment.

The project took place due to the efforts of Candice Agular, a Bedford resident and board member of the Herbert Feinberg Foundation. Agular has a passion for outdoor fitness and horses and felt the UTV would be the perfect way to give back to the community she lives in.

The Bedford Fire Department, which serves the Bedford Village Fire District, is made up solely of volunteers, responding to over 600 fire and EMS alarms every year. The department has been serving the community since 1923.
