Air Quality Alert Expands to Cover More of Hudson Valley Wednesday

With temperatures forecast to be in the 90s Wednesday, a health advisory has been extended to the Mid-Hudson Valley.

On Tuesday, the state Department of Environmental Conservation issued an Air Quality Alert in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

That advisory now includes Dutchess and Ulster counties.

All of New York City and Long Island are under the alert as well.

Air quality levels outdoors are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground-level ozone.

The state Department of Health recommends that people consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.

This particularly applies to those who are sensitive to the effects of pollution, such as the very young and those with respiratory problems or heart disease.
