On The Air: Sesame Street Goes Treasure Hunting In The Hudson Valley
The Muppets left the sunny days on Sesame Street behind for farm-fresh trips to the wide open spaces of Westchester during the pandemic.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — If you make a right turn at Sesame Street and keep going, you might just find yourself in some of the Hudson Valley's most "A-OK" locales.
For it's 52nd season, Sesame Workshop took seven of its 35 new Sesame Street episodes to the great outdoors. Rudy and Freddy followed a map to find hidden treasure at Croton Gorge Park in Westchester in "Hike Pirates," which aired Thursday, January 6. Five other episodes were filmed on-location at Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard in North Salem, starting with "Sesame Street Goes to the Farm," airing on Thursday, April 21.
"Creating this season of Sesame Street during the pandemic has been an enormous undertaking," Sesame Street Executive Producer Ben Lehmann said. "Just as our characters use playful problem-solving in the face of challenges, we, too, took a creative approach, finding innovative solutions while keeping our cast and crew safe."

While keeping everyone safe, they were also challenged to maintain the production values the beloved children's show is famous for. It turns out nearby Westchester County fit the bill perfectly.

"The idea was to create content that looked different from a Zoom call done from home,” location scout Marc Auerbach told Visit Westchester County. "We wanted a country destination with fruit trees and livestock, and we wanted space to spread out and film safely."
Sesame Street’s new season debuted on Thursday, November 11 on HBO Max. New episodes of the iconic children’s series, 35 total, air each Thursday. The season will stream on PBS KIDS in the Fall.
