ALE Relay Team Breaks Record But Finishes Second in Race
Foursome of Brian Glat, Chandler Glat, Evan Barker and Christopher Draper came in second in the 10-and-under 200-yard medley relay at Day 3 of the County Swimming Championships.
It was familiar names making headlines on day three of the Westchester County Swimming Championships Wednesday afternoon, as a number of swimmers from Katonah and Bedford added to their medal tally and earned crucial points for their teams.
A day after setting a meet record in the 10-and-under 200-yard medley relay, Anita Louise Ehrman's Brian Glat, Chandler Glat, Evan Barker, and Christopher Draper, were at it again, this time swimming under the meet-record time in the 10-and-under 200-yard freestyle relay. Unfortunately for the ALE foursome, Wykagyl Country Club also swam under the record time, finishing in first place in a time of 2:1.22 seconds. ALE finished second a fraction behind, posting a time of 2:1.91, well under the previous record of 2:6.63 set at last year's County Championships.
"They were a little bummed out today because it was so close," said Anita Louise Ehrman Head Coach Laura Tiedge. "But it's kind of great to see both teams share first place and share records. They both broke records yesterday and they both broke records again today. It was a great race."

Adding to his medal count, and contributing vital points towards ALE's team score, Brian Glat recovered from the early afternoon relay effort to win the 10-and-under 50-yard backstroke in dominant fashion. Glat qualified as the top seed in the event, swimming a time of 31.97 seconds in the preliminary round, before winning the final by over two seconds in a time of 31.67 seconds, just .13 off of Marc Lener of Mount Kisco's meet record set in 1988.
"I wanted to try and break the record," said Glat. "Unfortunately I started on the left side of my lane and came all the way back to the right side. It was a little upsetting but I'm happy I got first. It's good points for the team."
