Jury Finds Liquor Store Worker Guilty After He Kicked Window Out Police Car

LEWISBORO, NY — A worker who became enraged after police arrived at his place of employment has been found guilty by a Westchester County jury.

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that 37-year-old Carlos Bringas, of South Salem, was convicted on five counts connected to the June 2022 incident in the Town of Lewisboro.

Bringas was convicted following a four-day jury trial in Lewisboro Town Court. He was found guilty of third-degree assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, obstruction of governmental administration, and disorderly conduct.

On June 6, 2022, Lewisboro police responded to a harassment call involving Bringas at the Vista Wine & Spirits, in the Oakridge Common shopping center in South Salem. When being questioned, Bringas became disorderly and abusive toward the officers.

While being placed under arrest for disorderly conduct, Bringas violently resisted and kicked out the window of a police vehicle, damaging the door. His violent behavior continued later inside the Lewisboro courthouse, where he again fought with police.

"Mr. Bringas' rash and violent actions in this incident were unacceptable," DA Cacace said. "This case serves as a great reminder that our office, and our local police departments, will not tolerate this type of behavior. While some may consider these misdemeanor charges lesser offenses, our prosecutors expended tremendous efforts to lay out a clear and detailed case during a four-day trial. I commend their commitment and I thank the Lewisboro Police Department for their service."

The case was investigated by the Lewisboro Police Department and the New York State Police.
