Back-to-School Backpack Prep Day

Family Services of Westchester has collected hundreds of backpacks to be distributed to children of all ages—from Pre-K through high school—who are enrolled in its programs. Of course, before these backpacks can be given away, they must first be sorted and filled with supplies! Volunteers are needed to help pack these backpacks with all of the school supplies that the children and teens will need to make a strong start for the upcoming school year. Volunteers can be 16+; those 14-15 can register as part of an adult's team.
Date: 8/10 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Organization: Family Services of Westchester
Location: Tarrytown

Annual Family Garden Party

The Family Garden Party features interactive activity stations, a garden adventure with puzzles and clues, crafts, a pollinator scavenger hunt, story time, food vendors, music, and plenty of family-friendly fun. Volunteers will assist with the event and help support activities throughout the gardens. Morning volunteers will assist with setup and are welcome to stay and enjoy the Family Garden Party after their shift, while afternoon volunteers can explore the event before their shift and assist with light cleanup after the Family Garden Party. This is the perfect project for volunteers who are 15+, and volunteers as young as 13-14 can register as part of an adult's team.
Date: 8/15 from 9:15 a.m.-12 p.m. and 11:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
Organization: Friends of Lasdon Public Gardens
Location: Katonah

Secretary or Treasurer

The New Rochelle Council of Community Services (NRCCS) brings together community and non-profit leaders to assess and meet vital needs in New Rochelle by sharing information and collaborating to implement solutions. It is currently seeking two individuals to serve as Secretary and Treasurer of its Executive Committee. Committee members must be 18+ and live or work in New Rochelle.
Date: Monthly for a two-year term
Organization: New Rochelle Council of Community Services

National Water Quality Month Clean-Up

In recognition of National Water Quality Month, volunteers will help clean both the shoreline and nearby streets of the Bronx and Westchester. By targeting these areas, volunteers will help prevent pollution from entering the waterway and improve the health of the river and surrounding ecosystem. Hutchinson River Restoration Project will provide gloves, grabbers, trash bags, water, and a light snack for volunteers.
Date: 8/16 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
