BEDFORD, NY — An emergency plan is being put into action after a gas leak triggered an evacuation, as first responders tended to students and teachers.
The scene unfolded earlier this morning when construction contractors hit a gas line at 52 Highland Avenue in Mount Kisco.
EMS checked students and staff on scene at Mount Kisco Elementary School and cleared them, according to the Bedford Central School District. The elementary students are safe, accounted for, and have been fed lunch at Fox Lane High School, school officials said.
"Con Edison has secured the gas leak, and both the fire department and Con Edison have cleared Mount Kisco Elementary School and Hillside," the district said in their most recent update, shortly before noon. "We will be busing students back to MKES and Hillside to resume the school day. Dismissal will proceed at the regularly scheduled time. We ask that, if possible, you do not make any changes to your student's regularly scheduled dismissal plans."
