Goldman, who will run the offense for Harvey, said he was excited to work with a professional quarterback.
“It was great to throw the ball around with the guys and get some valuable input from an NFL player,” Goldman said.
Orlovsky, a six-year pro who played his college ball for the University of Connecticut, had originally signed with the Detroit Lions in 2005 after they had drafted him the in the fifth round. After spending his first three seasons in Detroit as a backup, the 27-year-old Orlovsky started seven games for the Lions in 2008 before signing a three-year deal with the Texans in 2009. The 6-foot-5, 230 lb Orlovsky said he gave Goldman, Eck and some receivers past and present from Harvey, John Jay, Kennedy, and Rye Country Day “a good workout” at Harvey’s Raymond Kuntz field. He said he saw “some good players out there” and had “a lot of fun working with them.”
Harvey’s varsity football coach Chris Kelly described the event as “an extremely unique and exciting opportunity that allowed some area athletes to work so closely with an NFL veteran.” Coach Kelly said “the boys will take a lot away from this experience.”
Goldman said he appreciated getting some pointers from Orlovsky and “couldn’t be more pumped to get the football season going.” The 2011-2012 NFL season is still in doubt as the lockout the owners began four months ago continues. Orlovsky, a Shelton, Connecticut native, said he hopes the latest reports of an imminent agreement are true.
