Friends of the Brewster Public Library Book Store Grand Reopening and Brewster Founders Day By Dorothy Killackey What better time to revisit the newly renovated book trailer than on Sunday, October 2, 2011! The October 2nd Brewster Founders’ Day celebration will once again have a “street fair” that gets more exciting each year. Most of Main Street is closed off so that local volunteer organizations and charities can set up tables and booths, introducing attendees to local interests and opportunities. There is entertainment, and there is a festive, holiday atmosphere all around, with balloons, music, old and “new-time” friends who are strolling along, viewing the exhibits and displays and sampling wares. Having lived in Brewster for forty-nine years, I have seen more and more interest and camaraderie each year for these local occasions. More parents and grandparents are taking pride in the town, and as a result, the town is regaining its close connective pride. Our own Brewster Public Library will have a table to promote library services and invite other Brewsterites to join the Brewster Public Library “Friends Group”. These “Friends” have renovated the white “book trailer” that has taken on the aura of an old fashioned bookstore with its homey atmosphere and inviting arrangements of used books that can be bought. Their current special sale is only $10, which buys a Brewster Library tote bag that you can fill with as many books as the bag will hold. But, even better, come back a second day with your bag, and for only $5 more, you can once again fill the bag to full capacity! From adult classics to children’s first readers, from dictionaries and travel books to classical fairy tales, they are all there for you at these astounding prices. While the Founder’s Day celebration is on October 2, 2011, the library’s book “special sale” is for both Saturday, October 1 (from 10:00 am to 12:30), and Sunday, October 2 (from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm). Also, On October 2, they will be raffling off a lovely fall gift basket (money to benefit the library). Come both days, and enjoy visiting the little cozy book annex and filling a bag with your selections and then returning for Founders Day and choosing more books for your home library.
