Bedford, Katonah-Lewisboro Approve 2019-20 Budgets

BEDFORD, NY — Voters in the Bedford school district approved the $138.5 million budget for the 2019-20 school year. According to unofficial results, the budget was approved 1,730 to 998.

The budget was 2.42 percent more than the current spending plan and the tax levy increase was 3.81 percent, which was within the state mandated tax cap.

Five candidates were vying for three seats. The winners are Jessica Cambareri, John Boucher and Beth Staropoli. Also running were Michelle Brooks and Joseph Malichio.

Voters in the Katonah-Lewisboro school district approved the $110.2 million budget for the 2019-20 school year. According to unofficial results, the budget was approved 1,152 to 353.

The budget was 1.36 percent more than the current spending plan and the tax levy increase was 1.61 percent, which was within the state mandated tax cap.

Voters were also asked to approve bus and maintenance vehicle replacements. The district asked for four 66-passenger buses, a wheelchair accessible van, a transportation garage service truck and an operations and maintenance "rack" truck — for a total cost not to exceed $648,485. The proposition was approved.

Two candidates were vying for three seats. Julia Hadlock and Elizabeth Gereghty were on the ballot. District officials said the tallying for board trustees will take some time.
