Bedford District To Vote On $138.5M 2019-20 Budget
District officials said the tax levy increase is within the state mandated tax cap.
BEDFORD, NY — The Bedford Central School District will vote May 21 whether to approve a $138.5 million budget for 2019-20. According to documents on the district's website, the proposed budget is about $3.2 million more than the current spending package.
The budget-to-budget increase is 2.42 percent. The tax levy will increase 3.81 percent, district officials said.
The tax levy increase is within the allowable state property tax cap, officials said.

Highlights of the budget include continued support for the implementation of a new elementary literacy program, expansion of elementary classroom libraries, continued support of district and school technology initiatives and improved security equipment.
If the budget were not to be approved and the district had to implement a contingency budget, $4.6 million would have to be cut from the proposed budget.

That would increase elementary class sizes, co-curricular extra curricular and athletics would have to be reduced or eliminated and non-instructional staff would have to be reduced, among other things.
There will be public presentations at Bedford Village Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9 and at Mount Kisco Elementary School at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 21.
