Bedford Man Arrested After Forcibly Raping An Acquaintance: NYSP
New York State Troopers said the 26-year-old traveled to Carmel where he assaulted the victim who he knew.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A 26-year-old Bedford man is behind bars after state police said he forcibly raped an acquaintance.
On May 25, the New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested Alexander Backofen for rape in the 1st degree, two counts of criminal sex act in the 1st degree, all class B felonies and assault in the 2nd degree, a class D felony.
Investigators say Backofen traveled to Carmel and forcibly raped and assaulted a victim who he already knew.

Backofen was arraigned in the town of Carmel Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 cash bail or a $150,000 bond. He is next scheduled to appear before the court on June 13.
