Bedford's Carol Kurth Architecture + Interiors Wins Design Award

Art House 2.0, which has received an Honor Award for Architecture, is a serene modern retreat nestled in an untouched forest.

The following announcement is from Carol Kurth Architecture + Interiors:

The Carol Kurth Architecture + Interiors design team has received a 2014 Design Award from AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapter for their stunning Art House 2.0 modern home. Carol Kurth, FAIA, and her team will celebrate the prestigious win at the Chapter’s Celebration of Architecture Awards to be held Wednesday November 5th at the Larchmont Yacht Club. The AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley Design Awards program recognizes projects designed by chapter members that make a positive aesthetic and social contribution to the built environment.”

Art House 2.0, which has received an Honor Award for Architecture, is a serene modern retreat nestled among natural stone outcropping and untouched forest. The design team designed and built the client’s first residence more than twenty years ago and collaborated with them once again to create their new open, airy, gallery-like home that frames views to the natural woodland setting. The creative process involved placing the client’s art and mid-century furniture collection strategically throughout the new home to create colorful view corridors and spaces. Sculpture niches, outside and in, were designed to focus the views within and further the inside/outside gallery environment. The jury applauded “the minimal detailing and modest exterior that allows the landscape to take over, creating a building that beautifully nestles into the site and is one with nature.”
