Car-Bus Crash Sends A Dozen People To Hospitals

The bus was privately owned and was transporting adults with special needs.

BEDFORD, NY — A crash between a car and a bus Dec. 18 in Bedford sent more than a dozen people to the hospital. Bedford Police said they responded to the accident around 3:42 p.m. on State Route 172 in the area of West Patent Road. Officers were advised the crash involved a passenger vehicle and a privately owned bus that was transporting adults with special needs.

Police said the road was closed and multiple ambulances were requested.

The passenger vehicle was driven by Mimi Rand, 55, of Stamford, CT. She was driving a 2008 Jeep and, police said, she crossed the double yellow line.

The bus driver tried to drive to the right to avoid the collision, but was not successful.

Rand was taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.

The bus was occupied by a driver, an attendant and 11 passengers. The driver was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital with minor injuries.

The passengers of the bus were taken to Westchester Medical Center, Northern Westchester Hospital and White Plains Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, police said.

A total of 10 ambulances responded and transported patients.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Town of Bedford Police Accident Investigation Unit.
