Change Of Water Source Could Temporarily Affect Taste Of Tap Water

This change to a well is because New York City will be shutting down the Delaware Aqueduct for about three weeks.

BEDFORD, NY — Consolidated Water District customers might notice some subtle changes on tap.

Consolidated Water District customers in Katonah and Bedford Hills may notice a slightly different taste in their water due to the change in supply between October 16, through November 8.

The change is required since New York City will be shutting down the normal supply, the Delaware Aqueduct. The water district will instead use the Harris Road Well and Mt. Kisco Supply.

In October 2024, New York City plans to require that the district use alternative supplies for approximately eight months due to the city's construction work on the Delaware Aqueducts.

The district will need to use the Harris Road Well and Mount Kisco Interconnection during that shutdown. Both are approved for use by the Westchester County Department of Health.

Several shorter Delaware Aqueduct shutdowns are expected in preparation for the planned October 2024 work.
