Communale, Novick Commended for Police Work
Your first look at local government in action last night: A red-letter day for the men in blue.
Three Bedford police officers were cited for service Tuesday, with Detective Joseph Comunale singled out for “Police Officer of the Year” honors.
“All police officers live lives of consequence,” Bedford Police Chief William Hayes said, addressing a three-member town board and the town hall audience. “The men and women of the Bedford Police Department are no exception.”
Hayes then presented plaques and certificates to Sgt. David Novick, who held police-officer rank when he earned his “Traffic Safety Enforcement Award,” and to Comunale.

Comunale also won a certificate, presented by Asssemblyman Robert Castelli of Goldens Bridge, for his service with the , an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America. Police Officer William Smith, similarly cited for his work with the scouts, was unable to be present.

For the second meeting in a row, the town board got by with three members as Councilmen David Gabrielson and Peter Chryssos, who is also deputy supervisor, took some time away.
