Conn. Woman Accused of Fraudulently Cashing Check from Bedford Business

Jewell is charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, both felonies.

Twenty-three-year-old Hartford resident Semone Jewell was arrested by New York State Police last week in connection with theft of thousands of dollars from Bedford Gravel & Landscape Supply.

Police said Jewell fraudulently cashed a check - at a bank in Millerton - from the landscaping business worth $1,900. Bedford Gravel is out approximately $6,000 in alleged cashing of fraudulent checks, but Jewell is only charged in connection with the one check.

On December 2, 2014 at approximately 12:40 p.m., New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Dover Barracks charged Semone Jewell, 23, of Hartford, Connecticut with Grand Larceny 4th Degree, a Class E Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony.

On September 18, 2014, Troopers were contacted by the Bedford Police Department on behalf of Bedford Gravel & Landscape Supply. It is alleged that Bedford Gravel and Landscape had suffered an estimated $6,000 loss from fraudulent payroll checks being cashed. Investigation revealed that Jewell cashed one of the fictitious check at the First Niagara Bank in Millerton, enabling her to unlawfully receive over $1900 in return.

Jewell was extradited from Connecticut and taken into custody by New York State Police.

Jewell was arraigned before the Town of Northeast Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Bedford Police Department and the Connecticut State Police.
