Correction Officer Sentenced To Prison
He pleaded guilty to promoting prison contraband and having sex with a prisoner.

BEDFORD HILLS, NY — A former New York correction officer will be going to prison. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Tuesday Iran Colon, 32, of Staten Island, was sentenced for one to three years in state prison for first-degree promoting prison contraband and one year for third-degree criminal sexual act.
The charges are both felonies, and the terms will run concurrently.
Colon had pleaded guilty to the charges Nov. 7.

Colon, a correction officer based at the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, was arrested by the State Police in May at his home on Staten Island.
He was arraigned in Westchester County Court on a 19-count indictment stemming from illegal activities involving an inmate victim between May 1, 2017, and Sept. 23, 2017. Taconic Correctional Facility is a medium-security facility that houses only women.

He was one of three employees of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision arrested in May for illegal activities.
Garth Trail of Yonkers, a former head cook at the Taconic Correctional Facility, who was accused of engaging in a sexual act with an inmate victim in the kitchen area of the facility, pleaded guilty in November to third-degree criminal sexual act, a felony. He is expected to be sentenced July 23.
Former correction officer Melissa Hill of the Bronx was employed at Sing Sing Correctional Facility and was accused of having a romantic relationship with an inmate in connection with her employment at the prison. She was charged with a misdemeanor, pleaded guilty and was fined.
Sing Sing, which is located in Ossining, is a maximum security prison that houses adult males.
