Deer Park Tavern Site Likely to House Office Building

The tentative future of 40 Deer Park Road was discussed at the June 29 planning board meeting.

Though Deer Park Tavern owner Roy Reeves vowed to rebuild the restaurant after it was gutted by a fire in January, he may have other plans for the site.

Plans for an eatery were approved, according to Donald Coe, planning board chairman, but representatives of Double X Enterprises, the business entity that owns the land, presented plans to close up part of the septic fields--an indication that the restaurant, which would require the current size septic area under Department of Health regulations, would not be rebuilt.

The new plans, while still in the works, may include a 7,000 square foot office building.

"At this stage, everything is just conceptual,"  said Coe. "They know the size because they know how many parking spaces they have for this size lot. I think it's pretty safe to say that they're going to have an office building there."

Construction on the property has not yet begun, and it is unknown when it will start. According to Coe, building design is in the initial stages. Reeves was unavailable for comment.

K'hal Adas Kashau Good To Go

The K'hal Adas Kashau site at 165 Haines Road in Bedford Hills had its final plans approved at yesterday's meeting.

The site was at one point a tuberculosis sanatorium and is now a seminary for rabbis. Those attending come to live and learn at the complex, many with their own families.

The board was pleased with the slight architectural changes to the buildings and found them more asthetically pleasing than the previous plans proposed.

Construction may begin immediately on the new buildings.

The lot will be used for six commercial business vehicles. The vehicles will leave the lot once in the morning and return in the evenings. Employees' cars will be left inside the lot when they come to pick up the commercial vehicles.

Planned changes made to the Plainfield lot include cutting weeds down in the parking area, replenishment of washed away gravel by the front rolling gate, and cleaning and minor repairs of the fencing. The gate is to be locked at night.

The conditions of the lot include limited lighting upon approval and planting of shrubbery along the railway and road.

"We have not only tried to keep the streetscapes neat and clean but also the railroad scapes that people see when they go by on the train everyday," Coe said. "As a result, we have been able to get a lot of trees planted in that section of town."
