Engineer in Bronx Metro-North Crash to Receive Pension

The crash was the deadliest in Metro-North history until 2015 when a train slammed into an SUV in Valhalla.

The Metro-North engineer who caused a derailment that killed four people and injured 60 when he fell asleep at the controls will receive his pension.

The Journal News said William Rockefeller will receive payments for a disability that will not let him return to work.

The type of disability was not specified.

Rockefeller was cleared of criminal charges in the Dec. 2013 derailment which occurred when the train he was controlling was traveling 82 miles per hour around a curve with a 30-mph limit.

The crash happened near the Spuyten Duyvil Station in the Bronx.

He has not faced a disciplinary hearing, the Journal News said.
