Assemblyman Robert J. Castelli will hold a public hearing at the Katonah Village Library on the proposed hydro-fracking project in New York's portion of the Marcellus Shale natural gas reserves, and the process' potential effects on the New York City Watershed.
Opponents of hydro-fracking say that the chemicals used during the drilling process, known as hydrofracking, could potentially lead to adverse environmental effects in our area's watershed.
The hearing for will gather facts and testimony from Chesapeake Energy, the gas drilling company that holds rights to the Marcellus Shale, as well as Damascus Citizens, a grassroots environmental group protesting hydro-fracking of the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania, and the Sierra Club.
Each group will have the opportunity for prepared statements, and will receive questions.
