Feds: Railroad Safety Recommendations Must Be Revisited to Avoid More Crashes

The agency administrator cited the deadly 2015 Metro-North crash in Valhalla.

States need to revisit Federal Railroad Administration safety recommendations so it can press Washington for funds.

FRA Administrator Sarah Feinberg cited the deadly 2015 Metro-North crash in Valhalla as a reminder that it is extremely important to find ways to prevent such accidents, according to a report on FIOS1News.

Feinberg said officials must test crossing signals and nearby traffic signals to assure they are operating properly and in sync with each other.

One year after the fatal crash, Metro-North Railroad has been working on crossing safety as a priority. The railroad is also facing multiple lawsuits.

Safety+Health, the official magazine of the National Safety Council, said the FRA made the formal request Feb. 17.

Feinberg said the FRA cannot solve safety problems by itself and that it takes all stakeholders to make certain lives will be saved, Safety+Health said.
