Flooding Possible For Parts Of Hudson Valley

A Flood Watch is in effect because rising temperatures and possibly heavy rain could cause rivers and streams to rise.

Parts of the Hudson Valley are under a Flood Watch thanks to a warmup in temperatures combined with rainfall. The National Weather Service said the watch is in effect from 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12 through noon Saturday, Jan. 13 for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Temps are forecast to warm up well into the 50s Friday. A period of moderate to locally heavy rain will also move though area Friday into Saturday.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts, are expected during this time.

The combination of melting snow and periods of rain should allow rivers and streams to rise, breaking up the ice and potentially allowing ice jams to form.

Rivers and streams could see sudden rises in the vicinity of these ice jams.
