Forbes: Here’s The Richest Resident In New York
Forbes identified the richest person in each state. You've probably heard of New York's.
Forbes analyzed the fortunes of the country’s richest people to identify each state’s wealthiest person. This is the magazine’s fifth edition of the list.
New York’s richest resident is Michael Bloomberg, the businessman and former mayor of New York City, who is worth $53.8 billion, according to Forbes. Bloomberg, who is frequently mentioned as a possible candidate for president, was one of the founders of Bloomberg LP, a global information and technology company. He served three terms as mayor.
The net worth of the individuals on the list varies. For example, Washington is home to the world’s two richest and most recognizable billionaires; Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, but in certain states, the richest people only had a nine-figure net worth, Forbes writes.

Collectively, the wealthy on the Forbes list had a net worth of $875 billion, which the magazine says set a new record.
