Former Mount Kisco Parking Officer Jeffrey Daday Sentenced for Grand Larceny

North Salem resident Jeffrey Daday, 36, formerly the parking officer for Mount Kisco, was sentenced to shock probation in connection with his guilty plea for stealing more than $90,000 from the village’s parking meters.

Daday must pay back the village the full amount for his sentence to be official.

“The public must be able to trust and have confidence their government and public servants, whether it’s representing their interests in Washington or Albany or as mundane as putting coins in a parking meter,” said Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore in a statement. “This defendant acted as if he could get away with his crime because he was stealing from a nameless, faceless entity, when in actuality he was stealing from the very people who placed their trust in him, the residents of the Village of Mt Kisco.”

Daday skimmed money from the meters for five years from January 2009 to May 2014. He would then “deposit part of the proceeds, anywhere from $190 to $600 at a time, usually in the form of quarters, into his bank account at the local branch of People’s United Savings Bank on Moger Avenue in the Village.”

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Jeffrey Daday (DOB 08/01/78) of 15 Sun Valley Drive, North Salem, New York was sentenced today to shock probation on his September 2014 guilty plea to:

• one count of Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony
• one count of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree, a class “E” Felony.

His sentence was conditioned on full restitution of the stolen revenue to the Village of Mt. Kisco on or before the date of his sentencing.

This defendant acted as if he could get away with his crime because he was stealing from a nameless, faceless entity, when in actuality he was stealing from the very people who placed their trust in him, the residents of the Village of Mt Kisco,” said District Attorney Janet DiFiore.

Over five year period from January 5th 2009 until May 6th, 2014, the defendant, a Parking Enforcement Officer for the Village of Mt. Kisco, took Village parking meter revenue belonging to his employer, the Village of Mt. Kisco.

The defendant would empty the meters and deposit part of the proceeds, anywhere from $190 to $600 at a time, usually in the form of quarters, into his bank account at the local branch of People’s United Savings Bank on Moger Avenue in the Village.

After reviewing the defendant’s bank records, it was determined that the total amount of the larceny is $90,893.72.

Mt Kisco police were alerted to the thefts by employees at People’s United

Bank who noticed that the defendant was making large coin deposits into his personal checking account, while in uniform, on a weekly basis, over a long period of time.

Police along with investigators from the District Attorney’s office initiated a surveillance of the defendant over a period of time. The defendant was observed removing the coin chambers from several parking meters and emptying the contents into his pants cargo pocket.

He was confronted as he left the bank branch after making a deposit and subsequently arrested.

Assistant District Attorney Stephen Ronco of the Public Integrity Bureau prosecuted the case.
