Geography Bee Local Champ Crowned in Katonah-Lewisboro School District

An eighth-grade student at John Jay Middle School will soon find out whether his recent Geography Bee win will propel him to the state and national levels.

Matthew Collins won the tie-breaking round Jan. 21 over seventh-grader Ryan Kaplan and eighth-grader McQuaid Shin, who were second and third place, respectively.

Collins placed second in last year’s competition.

He said he was passionate about geography.

“Every day, I set aside an hour to study some sort of map,” Collins said.
