GlenArbor Gains Permits to Reconstruct Course

Planning board signs off on Bedford Hills project, which aims to overhaul portions of the 6th hole.

GlenArbor Golf Club got the green light Tuesday to rebuild parts of the course’s 6th hole.

Finishing up the final steps in an environmentally sensitive application, club representatives obtained from the planning board both a special-use permit and steep slopes permit required in connection with the rebuilding work. The Bedford Hills club looks to install two new tee boxes and add 300 feet of cart path and 80 feet for walking.

Timothy S. Allen, an engineer with the project’s consultants, Bibbo Associates in Somers, and Ken Benoit, the golf course’s superintendent, addressed the board members Tuesday night.

It marked the first meeting for the board’s newest member, Diane Lewis of Katonah, an environmental activist. She questioned Benoit closely on the club’s plans plans to replace 43 trees uprooted during the reconstruction, asking him to spell out, among other things, where they were going, what types of trees they would be and even whether they would be deer-resistant.
