Heat Advisories Issued For Hudson Valley Thursday

Rain is in the forecast for Friday, so that could mean an end to the extreme heat.

Once again heat advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for the Hudson Valley. For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. The heat index values — because of elevated humidity — will be in the mid-90s.

The forecast high for northern Westchester is 88 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

For Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties, the heat advisory will expire at 9 p.m. Thursday.

Heat index values will be in the mid-90s to around 100 due to temperatures in the mid-80s to lower 90s. Dew points will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. These is a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

For the region, the combination of heat and high humidity may cause heat stress or other heat-related illnesses particularly to those most vulnerable, the NWS said.
