Help Make The Westchester Garden and Landscape Show Bloom |Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Westchester Garden and Landscape Show

Help make Lasdon Public Gardens' inaugural Westchester Garden and Landscape Show a success! This event brings together homeowners, gardeners, landscape professionals, environmental organizations, and businesses for demonstrations, garden walks, hands-on activities, and more. Volunteers will help with setting up, welcoming visitors, providing directions, supporting activities, and other general event needs. Volunteers who sign up for a two-hour shift will receive one free ticket to the event.

Early Education Hall of Heroes Event

This special event honors and uplifts the incredible professionals of the child care community. Enthusiastic volunteers are needed to help with setup and cleanup, guiding and checking-in guests, and assisting with the silent auction. Volunteers must be 21+ to participate.
Date: 9/25 from 3:30-9:30 p.m.

National Public Lands Day

Join the Nature Center at Greenburgh on the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort honoring public lands! Volunteers of all ages and experience levels can support the restoration and stewardship of the Nature Center's 33-acre public preserve with an outdoor project. Volunteers are encouraged to enjoy the day's other festivities, such as the ribbon cutting, puppet show, crafts, and animal visits. Volunteers must be 14+ to participate alone, while those 6+ can sign up as part of an adult volunteer's team.

Yonkers Comic Con

Yonkers Arts is seeking energetic and reliable volunteers to assist with Yonkers Comic Con. This is a great opportunity for both groups and individuals who love comics, gaming, or community event-planning. All volunteers receive a T-shirt and multiple shifts are available throughout the day. Additional volunteer registration is required.
Date: 9/26 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; multiple opportunities. Registration ends 9/20

McLean Avenue Fall Festival

The McLean Fall Festival is a community celebration that brings together local residents, families, businesses, and organizations for an afternoon of activities, entertainment, and connection along McLean Avenue. One Paso will be participating in the festival to connect with community members, share mental wellness resources, and engage attendees in activities and conversations around mental health and wellness. Volunteers will support One Paso's team with event setup, community engagement and resource-sharing throughout the festival, as well as breakdown at the end of the event. One Paso staff will be present, and volunteers will receive a One Paso T-shirt to wear throughout the event and keep afterwards.

Repair Cafe Fixers and General Support

Repair Cafe is a community event where handy volunteers meet with community members to fix their broken items at no cost. Not only does this bring the community together, but it passes down valuable repair skills while keeping items out of the landfill. Personable and compassionate volunteers are needed to help with both fixing items as well as general event support, and Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially encouraged to participate. Volunteers don't need to be professionals—just friendly folks who happen to be handy—though professionals are encouraged to promote their businesses and services by bringing fliers. Knife sharpeners, jewelry repairers, and electrical/mechanical pros are especially needed!
