Katonah-Lewisboro District Mulls Changing Class Start Times

The Board of Education will make a presentation on the proposal at the March 9 meeting.

CROSS RIVER, NY — The Katonah-Lewisboro School District is considering changing the start times for schools.

According to information from a spokeswoman, the district is studying an alternative that would allow for a change from the early start time for the middle school and the late end time of the elementary school.

As a result, modifications to each of the district’s five schools’ start and end times is being considered for the 2017-18 school year.

A presentation will take place at the March 9 Board of Education meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the John Jay High School cafeteria.

The proposed change for elementary schools would be to change the start time from 9:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. Instead of ending at 3:40 p.m., the elementary schools would dismiss classes at 3:25 p.m.

Middle-school students would start classes 25 minutes later than they are now and would be dismissed 25 later.

For high-school students, the day would begin and end 20 minutes earlier.
