Katonah's Ralph Salomon Takes 1st in Group One at Ohio Vintage Car Race

As a photographer by trade, he freezes moments in time. As a vintage race car driver for fun, he takes moments of days gone by, steps back in time and speeds in his vintage car around the track at different races.

Ralph Salomon drives car #98, a 1960 Elva 200 Formula Junior car. Last weekend he revved his engine and was raring to go at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course’s Mechanics Bank Vintage Grand Prix.

Competitors from Texas to Florida, and from Canada to Connecticut all competed in races over the three day long event. According to the Morrow County Sentinel, there were a total of 21 races. This year’s Vintage Grand Prix was the 55th anniversary of the Mini Cooper marque, the Sentinel reported.

In the Mini Challenge race, 47 cars competed.  Joe Huffaker of Sonoma, CA came in first place, Nick Swift of Grimsby, Ontario was second and Chris Kopley of Easton, CT finished third.

At the Hawk Performance Historic GT/GTP Enduro race, a 90-minute long competition, Robert Gewirtz won.

The rest of the races were individual group competitions. Drivers competed in races on both Saturday and Sunday. In Group One Katonah's Ralph Salomon took first place.
