Kisco Planning Board Reviews Mexican Restaurant's Expansion

Eatery looks to grow by taking over the space once occupied by Kim's Bagel Café.

An expanded Maya Restaurant will not contain a bar, owner Alex Gregario told the Mount Kisco Planning Board Tuesday.

The Mexican restaurant, already feeding patrons at its 34 Main St. address, is looking to expand into space next door, the onetime home of Kim's Bagel Café, at 37 Main St. The proposed expansion requires planning board approval as well as approval from the architectural review board.

In response to a question from planning board Chairman Joseph Cosentino, architect Theodore Strauss said the architectural panel had approved plans for a unified appearance in the façade of the combined storefronts.

Strauss also said, in response to a question from board member Ralph Vigliotti, that neither a onetime bar shown on one set of plans nor a proposed new bar shown on another will be part of the refurbished restaurant.

“For the record, there will be no working bar in the new facility.," Vigliotti summed up. Both Strauss and Gregario assured him there would not be.

Cosentino said that he would prepare a draft resolution for the board’s meeting next month, but that it would be contingent on the submission of updated site plans. Member Stanley Bernstein asked Strauss to include a smaller-scale plan that kept the site plan to a single page.
