Letter: GOP Candidate Search Process Open, Non-Partisan

Bedford's GOP Chair writes in response to Democratic party chair's letter regarding the nomination and selection process for justice candidates.

To the Editor,

I was surprised and disappointed by Bedford Democratic Chairman Bruce Yablon’s letter to the editor describing his committee’s process for nominating their candidate for Town Justice.

In describing the prerequisites necessary to earn nomination it is clear that one must be a member of their committee to be considered. That requirement would explain why their committee did not publicize their candidate search. One is only left to conclude that there really was no search process. We believe that Bedford voters deserve better.

Town Justice is, or at least should be, a non-partisan job. That is why our committee did a very public and open search without regard to party affiliation. We chose Todd Gabor, a registered Democrat, after interviewing a number of candidates, including his opponent. We felt Todd’s many years’ experience as a court appointed arbitrator and as a litigator make him uniquely qualified.

As he goes door-to-door, his candidacy is being warmly received by residents of all political persuasions.
